Acupuncture Treatments

Most people have no idea what to expect when they first go to an acupuncturist. At Emanuele Acupuncture, Rosanne will begin her work exploring the patient’s health history and concerns. She will then select from the following classic methods and procedures at the initial visit and subsequent sessions. Most patients return for 5-8 sessions, depending upon the state of their health, and the sessions last 45-60 minutes.

  • Acupuncture (Japanese style) – The therapeutic use of various types of sterile, hair thin, stainless steel one-time-use disposable needles. Also the use of a Japanese specialized dull-tipped needle which is gently held on the surface of the skin without puncturing it.

  • Moxibustion – Referred to as “moxa”, a procedure to warm surrounding tissues using the herb mugwort/artemesia

  • Medical Qi Gong – As energy (Qi) is released from the needles, Rosanne manually moves the Chi along the body and above the body, to help with the reorganization of energy

  • Gua Sha – A powerful and simple method used to move congestion out of the body

  • Hot Packs – Packs placed on various location to “warm” the “cold” spots on the body

One way to think of acupuncture is that it is an energetic conversation with body.

More specifically, an acupuncture session often begins with a soothing treatment to the abdominal area. The abdomen is considered to be the central microsystem of the body, according to the Shakuju method. Much of the body relaxes at this early stage in the treatment, and allows Rosanne to assess where the next part of the treatment needs to take place. Rosanne routinely works with the back, as this strengthen’s the body’s core energy, upright Qi, and therefore enables the body to address underlying weaknesses. Sessions could also include gently targeting points along the hairline and scalp to balance hormones and connect the brain to the body, targeting the wrists and balancing the wrist pulses, and/or focusing on points on the ankle, legs or toes.

Each acupuncture session is essentially a multi-leveled “conversation” with the body. Sessions could also include key points along the hairline and scalp to encourage hormone regulation and brain to body connection, treating locations also on the wrists, ankles or other areas of the limbs and balancing the wrist pulses. Typically, patients experience improvement after each session, but just as importantly patients feel: renewed, refreshed, grounded, calm.
